Hull & Deck

The only ‘Saltram’ Saga 40 built in aluminium. Specially re-designed for aluminium by Alan Pape himself. Built in 1990 by HABBEKE in Volendam (NL) using ALMG 4.5 5083 Marine grade aluminium and welding rod 5356. Hull ‘cores’ (from thru-hull fittings) available for inspection. Original aluminium construction plans.

Hull primed and painted with AWLgrip products above waterline. Black International micron (aluminium compatible) antifouling. Comfortable secure non-slip deck using rubber micro granules embedded in AWLgrip paint.

Professionally constructed in aluminium. Apart from propshaft, minimal through hull fittings, hatches and port lights there are no through hull/deck mountings. All mountings, cleats etc are welded to hull. This makes for a robust, watertight hull, with very low maintenance. Tanks integrated into hull (provides additional level of security in event of hull puncture) .

All integral tanks (all gauged) : 1 x 500L diesel, 1 x 80L Kerosene, 1 x 700L Water. An additional tank (700L) was previously used for water, but is now used for storage. It is easily converted back to tankage. Tanks have large (approx 70%) removable top hatches to facilitate access and cleaning. .

11 x GOIOT opening hatches (all welded into hull). GOIOT hemispherical observation dome on cabin roof.

Emergency boarding ladder permanently attached to port aft hull. Grab handles above propeller aperture on both sides helps propeller maintenance underwater, if necessary. 4 large circular MGDuff hull anodes.

Cockpit canvas removable sprayhood (plus a spare).

Aries self-steering gear on purpose built tubular mounting fame welded to hull. ‘Flip-up’ servo blade (spare servo blade, and aries spares kit).
